The Need For Credit

DocandPatient1200x628

In today’s economic climate, the need for dental practices to extend credit to prospective patients is a necessity. With the rising cost of healthcare across the board, most patients just cannot afford to pay for their treatment in one lump sum. So they will look for a dental practice that will extend them credit to pay over time.

Unfortunately, according to a report from the Corporation for Enterprise Development, “56% of consumers have subprime credit scores. Meaning they are unable to take advantage of the best, or even average interest rates if they need to borrow money.” So where does that leave your practice? Do you blindly extend credit on faith, hoping you’ll eventually see your return?

The good news is you don’t have to with our new Patient Credit Score Services.

This innovative service provides you and your staff with the financial data needed for making in-house credit decisions. Powered by TransUnion, you’ll get a synthesized report featuring a FICO score and the healthcare-specific metrics you need to get a more complete picture of your patient’s financial situation, right at the point of service.
Here are the great ways this service is designed to help make better in-house decisions:

  • Improve financial counseling with easy to read Decision Messages, which help staff with in-office credit determinations.
  • Expedite the registration process and improve revenue recovery through self-reported data that is quickly verified.
  • Reduce fraud and identity theft through five standard alert messages, including Red Flags.
  • Review the patient’s available credit and TransUnion New Account score, which are compared against pre-set thresholds to help optimize your collections processes.
  • Improve your charity care determination process and reduce bad debt by comparing the patient’s Federal Poverty Level (FPL) % estimate, which is compared against financial aid thresholds.
  • Makes soft inquiry on a patient’s credit, which will not affect their credit score.

Patient Credit Score Services will help your practice make objective, ability-to-pay decisions and ultimately help you collect on services rendered.

Improve your financial counseling and collection with DentalXChange!

“Our goal in supporting Humana’s All Payer Portal is to improve utilization management and increase administrative efficiencies for providers,” explained Scott Wellwood, President of DentalXChange. “By increasing the speed at which providers of dental care can gather and utilize insurance information, we will be helping to improve the overall healthcare experience for patients, while accelerating revenue cycles for each of Humana’s dental providers.”

DentalXChange’s 2015 Year in Review with Scott Wellwood

As the year winds to a close we thought it would be fitting for our fearless leader, Scott Wellwood, to reminisce about the company’s 2015. So, without further ado:

Hi All,

2015 has been a very exciting year for us on many levels. In some respects we’ve never faced stiffer competition in the marketplace, and yet we’ve managed to continue to grow our brand and respect throughout the industry significantly over the last 12 months.

Over the past year we have worked to create two new EDI solutions, E-Credentialing and Attachment Services. I’m pleased to report that both of these products are now a reality.

Scott Wellwood, President of DentalXChange

Scott Wellwood, President of DentalXChange

E-Credentialing provides easy to use tools for online credentialing and network enrollment, as well as automated form completion. This innovative, web-based application streamlines the creation and delivery of credentialing and network enrollment forms.

DentalXChange Attachment Services enables you to transmit attachments electronically. Fully integrated with ClaimConnect, you will be alerted to which claims need attachments to help expedite claims processing.

We have updated the User Interface of ClaimConnect making it easier to use, ensuring that it remains at the forefront of the technology curve.

We have also partnered with TransUnion allowing you to run financial assessments on patients needing treatment in order to determine the viability of extending “in house” credit.

We have worked tirelessly on making each of these products “best in class” and want to thank you, our customer, for the tremendous amount of input you’ve given. We greatly appreciate the trust you put in us and hope that these new products, services and upgrades will continue to make your life easier.

We wish you a happy and prosperous 2016,

Scott Wellwood

Why Are My Dental Insurance Claims Rejected?

The hours wasted into investigating why an insurance claim gets rejected can drive a person crazy and waste many quality hours that could be spent with patients.rejected dental claims

To help alleviate the aggravation, we talked to Lindsey Schurman, Manager of Client Services at DentalXChange, to find out how you can avoid being placed in a straightjacket and get those important claims paid quickly.

What are the top reasons claims are rejected?

The three issues we see most often are:

  1. The provider’s information does not match what is on file with the payer
  2. The patient info does not match what is on file with the payer
  3. The patient is no longer covered under policy

How can these be avoided?

The best way to avoid a rejected claim is to check the patient’s eligibility when they first make an appointment. This is easily done through ClaimConnect’s Real Time Eligibility. After eligibility is checked, make sure the patient’s ID card matches what is in their chart. This will help avoid discrepancies between information on file and what the payer has on record. After a client receives rejection, the advice we share is to verify that all the information matches what is on file with the payer.

When DentalXChange investigates a rejected claim we ask the following questions:

May I please confirm the patient info to make sure we have matching claims info?

Asked the payer to confirm:

  1. The Patient and Subscriber Name
  2. Dates of Birth
  3. Member IDs
  4. Addresses
  5. Genders
  6. Group/Plan numbers
  7. Plan Effective Date

May I also confirm that the correct Provider information listed on the claim is on file?

Ask them to confirm:

  1. Rendering and Billing
  2. Name
  3. NPI
  4. TIN
  5. Address
  6. License number
  7. Any applicable provider ID or Taxonomy code

One of these issues is usually the reason a claim gets rejected.

How does a product like ClaimConnect help?

When submitting a claim through ClaimConnect, the program focuses on minimizing rejections by checking claims for the preventable errors. We call these validation errors. Validation errors prevent claims from being sent when the information does not match what the payer requires. They can range from incorrect procedural codes to incomplete provider information. These errors are flagged and allow you to fix any discrepancies before the claim is submitted to the payer.

This saves a ton of time dealing with rejected claims. Of course, if anyone is having an issue with claims rejections, they can always give us a call. Our customer service representatives will be happy to help resolve any issues you might be having.

Thanks for taking the time to help us, Lindsey!

USPS to Raise Postage, AGAIN! Or, Why DentalXChange Lowered the Price of E-Delivered Statements.

It’s happening again.

As of May 31st, the USPS is increasing the price of postage. Every year the price goes up and this year is no exception. Unfortunately, due to this rise in cost, the delivery of our paper statements will increase from .75¢ to .76¢ per statement.

But we’re not taking this increase sitting down!

To help offset the post office price gouging and to encourage the switch from paper to EDI, DentalXChange will be lowering the cost of our e-delivery statement service from $0.49 to $0.37 per statement!

 That’s .39¢ less than a mailed statement!

To put that in context:

Switching_EPat[1]Let’s say you average 8 patients a day, 5 days a week. At the end of the month you are sending out 160 patient statements. That comes out to $121.60 in postage alone. Now, throw in the cost of printing and paper. Oh, and you have to pay an employee to stuff envelops. Doesn’t anyone remember how George Costanza’s fiancé died?!

E-Patient Statements electronic delivery is safe, fast, easy and now more affordable than ever. Those 160 statements can be e-mailed to your patients, saving you the cost of postage, printing, employee time and those dreaded envelops. Couple E-Patient Statements with PayConnect and you’ll be able to collect payment online!

This helps you get paid FASTER!

So to re-cap, we are lowering the price on our E-delivery service, making it easier for patients to pay you for services rendered and hopefully saving lives from toxic adhesive. This is a perfect opportunity to take advantage of this cost-savings option and not get squeezed by the USPS.

Take THAT post office!

To learn more about E-Patient Statements, PayConnect and how much money you can save, call us at (800) 576-6412 ext. 455 or visit www.dentalxchange.com
