DentalXChange has always supported serving the greater good in our community and the world, at large. Our charity, The EHG Fund helps causes from building schools in Africa to holding food drives in our area of Orange County, CA. As part of DentalXChange’s mission to assist the disadvantaged though education and healthcare, we will be sponsoring our Vice President of Business Development, Le Ann Morris’ trip to El Progresso, Guatemala, to help support a 3 day health clinic.
Organized by the Central American Lutheran Mission Society (CALMS) along with Concordia University, the health clinic will provide 2 doctors, 1 dentist and 23 nursing students who will see over 650 patients during the 3 day span. Mrs. Morris will be traveling with the group and is building resources to provide 700 oral health kits the will include things like a toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, hand sanitizer and other health essentials.
“These people live on less than a dollar a day,” said Morris. “At last year’s clinic some people walked over half a day just to get a toothbrush and had to be turned away because we ran out of kits. This year, with the help of DentalXChange and its employees, we hope to have enough supplies to make sure everyone receives a toothbrush. With coffee as their primary beverage at an early age, even in their bottles, dental disease is a huge concern for the medical team”
Dr. Dina Neeman, Associate Professor at Concordia University Irvine’s Department of Nursing, reflects on how important this trip is. “Last year, I led a trip of 9 nursing students to El Progresso, Guatemala and was greatly impacted at the amount of community health issues and overall health disparities in the village. The greatest needs were for basic medical and dental care, teaching and supplies. For this mission trip, we are incredibly blessed to have partnered with DentalXChange. Without their support and recourses, we would not be able to reach our projected goal of treating 650 patients, who will be given basic medical and dental care and provided a dental hygiene kit.”
We’d like to thank Mrs. Morris, along with Dr. Neeman for their efforts in making this trip and helping the people of El Progresso. If you would like to help support Mrs. Morris’s trip to Guatemala, please email her at email@example.com
A special thank you to Andy Oreffice, Senior Vice President of Kool Smiles for helping to secure an additional 500 tooth brushes. We now have a THOUSAND tooth brushes so no child or adult will go without this year.
